Medical school authorities informed us that it was particularly difficult to place a figure on the rate of emigration of Irish doctors. A survey of the pattern of emigration over a long period involving the tracing of many individuals would be required to obtain accurate information and, in particular, to isolate the number of doctors who emigrate permanently. This we have not had the opportunity of doing.
